aarthi and ganu thnxs for the answers....but the first answer is 'at'...i wrote 'with' in my exam n got it wrong....for similar reasons, the third answer is 'had caught'....so how do we prevent ourselves from making such trivial mistakes which might cost us our 1 point in english???

I am very sure that it is "vexed with". You can confirm through a dictionary.

yea...!! the same...!! i also hover close to the correct answer but make little mistakes like i've made here....!!

What we need to do is to understand the concepts..!!if we find out where past perfect should be used, where simple past should be used, we can form ourselves a set of guidelines for these elusive questions...!!

so..the task at hand is :
FIND THE CONCEPTS...! Exclamation and hurry...!! scratch

hmm....no...you cannot be 'vexed by somebody' but only 'vexed with/at somebody'.....i think it is 'at'....our teacher told us that though it might seem to be right, the board doesn't accept...that's the headache!! Mad

first of all..i dont think u can check the answer by replacing a specific word with its synonym Geethu...

the answer is corect...if we're not directly dealing with the object..

for eg:
the teacher was annoyed by our behaviour.

reply reply reply...!!!!!!!!!!!

but here we are dealing with the object...ie the collective noun "us"...

you can only be annoyed at somebody...!! collective noun is considered as a singular noun..rite..?? so i THINK the correct answer is "At"

Geethu is very much correct.

Prime minister_______(promise) to visit the hospital tomorrow.

TENSE Past Perfect
FORMS:
I'd (had) already eaten before they came.
She hadn't (had not) been to Rome before that trip.
Had you ever seen such a crazy lady before that?

USES:
To express an action that happens before another action in the past.

the "promising" thingie happened in the past...but the other thingie is only going to happen{going to hospital}

TENSE Present Perfect
FORMS:
I've (have) seen Mick three times this week.
She hasn't (has not) been to New York.
How long have you worked at Smith's?

USES:
1)To express an action that was begun in the past and continues into the present. 2) To express an action that happened in the UNspecified past. 3) To express a recent action that has a present effect.

here....the thingie is only gonna happen in the future so...usage of presnt perfct is correct..
