1) in grid square 9681 wat is the feature represented with spot height of 301 alien

2) in grid 8583 wat is the feature represented near to the hill like sun Question

3)wat does QC represent in the grid 8886 and the physical feature in 9187 with spot height of 591m
4)in grid 8490 wat is the black square there

now in d/10
in grid 2017 the black coloured feature with 3r near it

i think it is quarter c and if u have observed beside it there is qd this may mean quarter d bom

QC means that there is end of numbering of nothing or easting i.e 0-99 on a toposheet it is written after every 100km.

Why 45D/7 map consists of sq C2,C3 and parts od B2 & B3? I didn't understand this stanza of Frank(Mod Cert Geog) pg no: 25 upper right side? Why havn't they used A1,A2...C1 & B1. Secondly, how will i identify these squares in the Maps.

Dear Kanika according to the international system of location of a place the whole world has been divided into various squares. It starts frm the place where the equator and prime meridian meet and is named UA. Under the same fashion the whole world has been divided.......................... Thus the square is named QC.

Dear ssmarani
When the british came to india they surveyed india and neighbouring counties. A million sheet with the RF of 1:1 million were made. this million sheet has in all105 squares each of 4degree*4degree(longi and lati) scale.This was called the quarter sheet.
Further this Quarter sheet was divide into 16 parts of 1degree*1degree called the degree sheet. The 16 square are named A,B,C,D,E,F...........M,N,O,P.
each of this degree sheetis further divided into 16 squares having nos frm 1 to 16. one numbered square is further subdivided into 9 square 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A, 2B, 2C, 3A, 3B, 3C. thus u get those B3 and al
