Q. using ruler n compasses only, construct an isosceles triangle ABC having base=4cm, vertical angle=45 and median through vertex equal to 2.8 cm.

now, what is vertical angle?????

plz give steps. i am doubtful about my own answer.

vertical angle dear.. in an isosceles triangle is the unequal angle.. the two equal ones r called base angles..

hey i am still confused you have given the vertical angle n the description you hav given for it is the same as vertex angle and then you are asking what is vertex angle

i find dis question quite weird coz i dont think dere is any need of giving median in it.ok steps of construction r:
1-vertical angle given so find out d 2 base angles.
180-45=145 =72.5
2 2
2-draw base =4cm.
3-now on both sides of line draw angles of 72.5
3-d point at wich de intersect is d third vertex of d triangle.

take base as given, 4cm. draw perpendicular bisector of base( in iso triangle median and altitude are same).mark 2.8 cm on this median, you get ur vetex. at this point construct 22.5 degrees on both sides i.e. median should be bisecting 45.
for condtructing 22.5--- construct 45 on both sides and bisect.
