PostSubject: Re: EVE Questions EVE Questions EmptySun Mar 07, 2010 9:16 pm

1.Speciation is a process that occurs naturally in evolution and is modeled explicitly in some genetic algorithms

2.Natural selection is the process by which heritable traits that make it more likely for an organism to survive and successfully reproduce become more common in a population over successive generations. It is a key mechanism of evolution.

3.Ecological dominance is the degree to which different species in an ecological community predominate. In most communities, one or a few species are most numerous, or form the bulk of the biomass - these are the dominant species. Most ecological communities are defined by their dominant species.

4.growing crops and feed and livestock all on the same farm

5.Where more than two crop species are grown on a farm, often in association in the same field but sometimes in separate fields

6.
To increase consumer awareness, the Government of India launched the eco-labelling scheme known as `Ecomark' in 1991 for easy identification of environment-friendly products. Any product which is made, used or disposed of in a way that significantly reduces the harm it would otherwise cause the environment could be considered as Environment-Friendly Product.
The specific objectives of the scheme are as follow :

  • To provide an incentive for manufacturers and importers to reduce adverse environmental impact of products.
  • To reward genuine initiatives by companies to reduce adverse environmental impact of their products.
  • To assist consumers to become environmentally responsible in their daily lives by providing information to take account of environmental factors in their purchase decisions.
  • To encourage citizens to purchase products which have less harmful environmental impacts.
  • Ultimately to improve the quality of the environment and to encourage the sustainable management of resources

7.

The ISO 14000
is a standard for environmental management systems
that is applicable to any business, regardless of size, location or
income. The aim of the standard is to reduce the environmental footprint
of a business and to decrease the pollution and waste a business
produces. The most recent version of ISO 14001 was released in 2004 by
the ISO which has representation from
committees all over the world.
The major objective of the ISO 14000 series of norms is "to promote
more effective and efficient environmental management in organizations
and to provide useful and usable tools - ones that are cost effective,
system-based, flexible and reflect the best organizations and the best
organizational practices available for gathering, interpreting and
communicating environmentally relevant information". The intended end
result is the improvement of environmental performance.
It offers source of guidance for introducing and adopting
environmental management systems based on the best universal practices,
in the same way that the ISO 9000 series on quality management systems,
which is now widely applied, represents a tool for technology transfer
of the best available quality management practices.
The ISO 14000 environmental management standards exist to help
organizations minimize how their operations negatively affect the
environment. In structure it is similar to ISO 9000 quality management and both can be
implemented side by side. In order for an organization to be awarded an
ISO 14001 certificate they must be externally audited by an audit body
that has been accredited by an accreditation body. In the UK, this is
UKAS. Certification auditors need to be accredited by the International
Registrar of Certification Auditors. The certification body has to be
accredited by the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board in the USA, or
the National Accreditation Board in Ireland.

This is my note, kool
i just made it up now...al the best to al of u...!

Sustanable Consumption is the new way of calling the methods adopted by indigenous people and traditional society year ago. It provides us with knowledge of nature and rules of using resources judiciously so that all civilizations can survive peacefully. This was possible in the case of primitive civlizatns because they lacked the greed and selfishness which we possess now.

As man is the highest intelligent species, it is his duty to respect the integrity of nature and the stability of essential ecological processes. Its just a way of organising lifestyles to match the supporting capacity of the earth in a just and sustainable manner.

Today, man is trying to relive the past and trying to revive the traditional wisdom which was overshadowed by modern scientific thoughts and development. The reasons were mass consumerism, insatiable needs, greed, selfishness and enormous amounts of waste products filling the earth beyond it's carrying capacity.

eg: the Cholanaickens, who were the tribals of India, who were skillful and intelligent when it came to sustainable consumption. They used al parts of the of an animal or plant which they take for their use. They also maintain their integrity and live in harmony with other civilization and ultimately nature.

Peace..! cheers

ath macha,..........

Ecological succession, a fundamental concept in ecology, refers to more or less predictable and orderly changes in the composition or structure of an ecological community. Succession may be initiated either by formation of new, unoccupied habitat (e.g., a lava flow or a severe landslide) or by some form of disturbance (e.g. fire, severe windthrow, logging) of an existing community.

A niche is a term describing the relational position of a species or population in its ecosystem to each other.........

The environment is a bounty that God has given to man. He can chose to exploit its resources and also he can use it wisely.
There are wood based industries like furniture, paper, pulp etc and also we gain firewood etc
Many lives i the developing countries are depended on the environment eg: tropical forests for their livelihood. The forests have the potential to to contribute to the long run economic productivity and welfare of countries that contain these forests.

It is to be considered as a capital. A capital is an amount which we invest in a business initially so that we can get more money when the returns come in. Similarly, when we use the resources, we should also conserve the bio diversity which leads to ecological stability which further leads to production of resources.
for eg: If man is cutting down trees for some purpose, hw must take steps to replant trees in theose areas, so that after some years, he or his future generation can do the same thing.
This should be continued on and on.

Thus if man can successfully maintain the constant supply of valuable resources, all the organisms will be benefited.

PEaC..!
