| Answer.1)An optical fiber (or fibre) is a glass or plastic fiber designed to guide light along its length. Fiber optics is the overlap of applied science and engineering concerned with the design and application of optical fibers. Optical fibers are widely used in fiber-optic communication, which permits transmission over longer distances and at higher data rates than other forms of communications. They are also used as laproscope in medical science

| Question 2 is really great .i asksed this one from my sis. who is preparing for IIT-JEE (she was selected in IIT JEE last year when she was in 12 th but she decided to drop as her rank was not good)..So i too think that her ans. is correct... Answer 2.)There will be no change in the radioactivity by oxidisation(removal of electrons) because Radioactivity is purely a nuclear phenomenon |

| Question 1.) What is an optical fibre ? Give one practical use of an optical fibre.
ANS 1) An optical fiber (or fibre) is a glass or plastic fiber designed to guide light along its length. Fiber optics is the overlap of applied science and engineering concerned with the design and application of optical fibers. Optical fibers are widely used in fiber-optic communication, which permits transmission over longer distances and at higher data rates than other forms of communications. They are also used as laproscope in medical science.
ALTERNATIVE ANSWER: Optical fibre is a device based on TOTAL INTERNAL REFRACTION OF LIGHT RAYS. Consists of two layers forming a cable. refractive index of inner layer is more than that of outer layer, so the light rays entering the tube at an angle which is greater than the critical angle of inner layer, they suffer total internal reflection and follow a zigzag path quite different from rectilinear propagation of light. as there is no loss in TIR, OPTICAL FIBRES are widely used for transferring data in the form of light signals. they are used in medical field as in laproscope becoz of their property to take light along even bent paths. |
