| well...a glass rod dipped in ammonia soln gives dense white fumes with hcl gas..so it is used as a test.. wy it is not used...this q is one of those strange ones!...but maybe bcoz it forms dense white fumes which need to be condensed...or maybe bcoz hcl gas formed is needed... |

| even I know that a glass rod dipped in NH3 is used to detect the presence of hcl gas........
but I want to know y the glass rod shud not be taken inside the gas jar.........in book itz ritten that the rod shud be brought near the mouth of the jar but shud not be taken inside it..........y????????

| it says brought near the testtube coz the gas being heavier than air rises up..so it reacts wid NH3...i hav not seen anything like that written in any book....dat it shud not b taken inside....maybe its bcoz they dont want NH4OH to take part in the reaction |

| see, the glass rod is brought near the mouth to check whther the test tube is filled with hcl or not, so, to see, whether it is filled, we should only keep it near the mouth, if we take it inside, then wats the use of the test? maybe the reaction is explosive? |
